IFL: Reeds' Passion And Professionalism Enhance League

GALVESTON , Texas - His fellow Intense Football League owners are thrilled to have former NFL wide receiver Jake Reed in their company. Heck, a couple of his colleagues have even half-heartedly tried to sign him at the IFL spring meetings here this weekend.

"He can run routes for me anytime in Lake Charles anytime,'' kidded Louisiana Swashbucklers owner Thom Hager. "Look at Jake, he can still play the game."

Though honored by the compliment, Reed knows his playing days are behind as he and his wife Vinita are now focused on the Frisco Thunder's second season. While some owners still see what the former Minnesota Viking can do on the field, others appreciate what he and his wife are accomplishing off the field in Frisco and their contribution to the league.

"Jake has been involved in the ultimate right way of
football both on and off the field,'' said IFL commissioner Dan Blum. "That experience brings stability and professionalism to the league." ”

The Reeds took over the team midway through the 2007 and were recognized as the most improved franchise in the nine-team circuit.

"It's always great to have people who are passionate about what they are doing and Jake and Vinita are first-rate when it comes to that," said Odessa Roughnecks owner Tommy Benizio, who is also the IFL's Vice-President. "To have someone with Jake's NFL connection is a wonderful thing to tell people. It's a positive thing for the IFL."

The Reeds, Head Coach Troy Esprit and the Thunder staff spent the weekend in meetings and roundtable discussions.
